Frequently Asked Questions

A consultant attorney is a legal professional who operates as an independent contractor under the umbrella of a consultancy model firm like Excello Law. This role empowers solicitors to enjoy the benefits of running their own practice while benefiting from the support and resources of a progressive and forward-thinking firm. At Excello we have over 200 partner-level lawyers who have chosen to move away from the traditional legal path.

Prospective lawyers will meet with our senior team to discuss their needs and goals, creating a plan to build their envisioned practice.

At Excello Law, we tailor our support to your needs. We offer startup capital, modern office facilities, administrative and PA/paralegal support, marketing and IT services, finance and billing, document management, PII, and compliance, in exchange for a percentage of your billed fees.

Our Excello 360 business services team ensures a seamless transition, with advanced technology that allows effortless file transfers from your existing firm, ensuring it remains ‘business as usual’ for your clients from day one.

We operate a transparent fee-share structure, whereby Excello lawyers receive the majority of the profit on costs, billed and paid of their own client work. When you become a consultant solicitor you can take home a far higher percentage of your earnings. Plus you can earn additional fees from referrals to other Excello lawyers.

Most lawyers who join us either have a strong following or the confidence and network to build one. When you become a consultant solicitor at Excello Law, you’ll meet with our Marketing Director and Director of Community, who will help you promote yourself both within the firm and externally to build your profile.

Excello’s established referral network allows lawyers to connect through email groups or a dedicated intranet, finding experienced colleagues to collaborate on cases and build teams for larger projects. We also hold regular practice-specific and regional meetings to facilitate networking. Notably, 42% of matters opened are generated through referrals.

We provide dedicated central resources across IT, finance, secretarial and admin, marketing and business development. Our highly experienced and skilled business support teams, and use of secure, cloud-based finance, IT and case management platforms, provide a proven structure for consultant lawyers to successfully manage and develop your practice.

Unlike many similar model firms, the majority of our services – including all secretarial and admin support – are provided free of charge with no additional costs.

A consultant attorney typically works independently and provides legal services on a freelance basis to their clients. Instead of being employed directly by a law firm, a consultant lawyer has a contractual arrangement with a law firm to provide legal services as and when needed. In turn, the law firm will provide support services including paralegal, admin, infrastructure, finance, insurance and compliance.

This arrangement allows lawyers to have more control over their practice and benefit from a greater share of the fees generated from their work.
